Children and staff at GLAC primary school no longer have to manually lift their water thanks to an Impact Pump

It’s an exciting time for GLAC primary school in Kisumu, Kenya, as they no longer have to manually winch water from their deep well.

The installation of an Impact Pump, managed by our Kenyan technical team at Kijani Testing is set to bring efficiency, reliability and safety to the water supply at the primary school.

Before installing the Impact Pump, the children and staff at the school had to manually lift water from the 13m deep well with a bucket. As well as taking valuable time out of the school day, lifting water with buckets is less safe (open well top) and has a greater risk of contamination for the water supply as foreign objects can enter the well.

Now, the Impact Pump does the hard lifting work for them. The 250 children and staff at the school can now safely access the water from a surface tank and there is no need to use the bucket system.

About the set up

The Impact Pump allows surface pumps to access water below the usual suction limit (7m). In the set up at GLAC primary school, a Futurepump SF2 solar pump, which can usually only access water from 7m down, is able to lift water from 13m with ease.
